Diaspora Shares Knowledge in the Department of Aquatic Resources through the WCU Program

FPIK, SEMARANG – Diponegoro University (UNDIP) is one of the favorite universities in Central Java which has a World Class University (WCU) program. The WCU program aims to improve UNDIP’s capability to hold the status of a Top 500 university in the world. In order to support this mission, the Department of Aquatic Resources, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK) held a Visiting Lecturer activity by inviting a diaspora who works as a postdoctoral researcher at the Liebniz Center for Tropical Marine Research (ZMT), Germany, namely Dr. rer. nat. Dini Adyasari, S.T., M.Sc.

Dr. Aninditia Sabdaningsih, S.Si., M.Si, one of the lecturers in the Aquatic Resources Management Study Program and person in charge of the Visiting Lecturer program, explained that this program consists of 5 types of activities, namely Seminar Series which is held three times, in the form of Public Lecture, Training , and Motivation Class, as well as 2 other activities that were exclusively delivered by the resource person as guest lecturer, namely sharing knowledge in the Aquatic Microbiology Course and fine tuning the manuscript. These activities are included in the implementation of the efforts of The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which include SDGs number 4, 6, 14, and 17. SDGs number 4 on Quality Education, SDGs number 6 on Clean Water and Proper Sanitation, SDGs number 14 on Ecosystems Lautan and SDGs number 17 on Partnerships to Achieve Goals.

The Seminar Series was attended by the UNDIP academic community, namely undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral, lecturers, staff and even alumni. Head of the Department of Aquatic Resources, Dr. Ir. Haeruddin in his report stated that the total number of participants from the entire seminar series was more than 100 people and was dominated by undergraduate students.

The Dean of FPIK UNDIP, Prof. Ir. Tri Winarni, M.Sc., Ph.D in his speech said that with the COVID-19 pandemic, FPIK had the opportunity to gain knowledge from the diaspora. In addition, the Dean of FPIK, in closing the Visiting Lecturer event, added that the material presented by Dr. rer. nat. Dini Adyasari, M.Sc. very useful and hope that in the future good relations will continue to be established. The collaboration program that was built by FPIK with ZMT Germany is expected to continue to be implemented to contribute to the advancement of science and the welfare of the Indonesian people. FPIK, SEMARANG – On Monday, October 14th, 2019 Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science (FPIK) UNDIP guests from Hokkaido University. The arrival of Prof. Masahiro Nakaoka FPIK Undip well received by the Dean Prof. FPIK Ir. Tri Winarni Agustini, M.Sc, Ph.D and Vice Dean of Innovation and Research Dr. Tita Elfitasari, S.Pi, M.Sc and accompanied by Dr. Ir. Frida Purwanti, M.Sc as the Secretary of Doctoral Studies Program S3 Coastal Resource Management.

The activity continued with the implementation of a Public Lecture held on Monday, October 14th, 2019 located in Building A 3rd floor room J.301 by Doctoral Studies Program S3 and S2 Coastal Resource Management, Department of Aquatic Resources, as Speaker Prof. Masahiro Nakaoka of Akkeshi Marine Station, Field Science Center for Northern Biosphere, Hokkaido University, Japan; entitled “Multiple Ecosystem Services from Seagrass Beds: Synergetic Effects / Trade-Offs of Blue Carbon Services”

Postdoctoral activities previously are undertaken to support the activities of the program World Class University (WCU) Undip by sending one of the staff of the Ministry of Aquatic Resources, Dr. Ir. Frida Purwanti, M.Sc Akkeshi Marine Station, and Field Science Center for Northern Biosphere and Hokkaido University, Japan for 1 month (July – August 2019).

One objective of this postdoctoral activity is to research and joint publications between Undip with Hokkaido University. (Ratnaningtyas).

FPIK, SEMARANG – On this day, Tuesday, Oct 22nd, 2019 we had guests XI grade students of Mathematics and Science program of the Foundation Marsudirini SMA Fons Vitae 1, East Jakarta. Visits by 2 buses with approximately 80 participants, accompanied by 4 people Master Companion well received by the Vice Dean for Communications and Business Head, Head of Administration and the environment Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science (FPIK).

These outreach activities to acquire new information and insight about the College one of Diponegoro University. The event called Campus Study – Study Courses (Goes to Campus and Field Research), October, 21st to 25th plans to visit several places and Campus in Central Java (Semarang, Dieng Wonosobo Yogyakarta).

Located in Building Auditorium Campus FPIK Diponegoro University does the delivery profile of which include academic institutions where the atmosphere such as lectures and practical activities, what are the facilities and activities of Student Affairs. Speech, presentation, and discussion led by Ir. Irwani, MPhill as Vice Dean for Communications and Business make teachers and students enthusiastic to ask about the profile of the campus so that two-way communication is established. FPIK, SEMARANG – On Monday, November 18th, 2019, a joint LoA (Letter of Agreement) was signed between the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science (FPIK), Diponegoro University and the School, Graduate School and Faculty of Fisheries Science, Hokkaido University, Japan. The signing of the LoA was carried out in conjunction with the EURASTiP and ASEAN FEN 2019 activities in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. At the same time, there was also a signing of a collaboration between Brawijaya University and Kasetsart University, Thailand.

The signing which includes the Plan of Action on Student Exchange and Academic Exchange Agreement was carried out by the Dean of FPIK Prof. Ir. Tri Winarni Agustini, M.Sc, Ph.D and Dean of the Faculty of Fisheries Science at Hokkaido University, conducted by Prof. Nobuo Kimura, Ph.D.

The Plan of Action on Student Exchange states that the two Universities agree to implement a student exchange program. The Academic Exchange Agreement between the two institutions has agreed to form this academic exchange agreement to encourage international cooperation in education, research, community service and cultural exchange. Both institutions seek to develop mutually beneficial programs for students, faculty, departments and research institutions under the terms of this agreement. The potential programs and activities between the two institutions are but not limited to the following which includes curriculum development, joint academic and programs in full compliance with the accreditation and professional requirements of both institutions; joint research and publication; transfer of credit-bearing academic courses based on transparency of course materials and faculty qualifications; exchange of graduate and undergraduate students for study, research and internships; faculty exchanges for research, lectures, and laboratory experiments; exchange of educational materials, research projects, publications and library materials; joint conferences, seminars and workshops and joint supervision of the two institutions.

Dean of FPIK UNDIP Prof. Tri on that occasion said his gratitude for the trust given by Hokkaido University, Japan to UNDIP to be able to collaborate in the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, namely the fields of education, research, community service and other fields agreed by both parties in accordance with their respective functions and authorities. High school IT Ar Raihan Bandar Lampung Goes to Campus FPIK – UNDIP

FPIK, SEMARANG – On Wednesday, October 30th, 2019, the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science (FPIK) UNDIP welcomed students of class XII IPA and IPS programs from SMA IT Ar Raihan with a total of approximately 60 people who were accompanied by 5 assistant teachers. The delegation was well received by the Vice Dean for Communication and Business, the Head of Administration and the Heads of Subdivisions within FPIK as well as representatives from each Department.

Located in the Auditorium Building of the FPIK UNDIP Campus, the profile of the institution was delivered which included the academic atmosphere such as lectures and practicum activities, what facilities were owned and student activities. Remarks, presentations and discussions were led by Ir. Irwani, MPhill as Vice Dean for Communication and Business made teachers and students enthusiastic about asking about campus profiles so that two-way communication was established.

This visit activity is in order to obtain new information and insights about Higher Education and one of them is Diponegoro University. The activity entitled Ar Raihan Goes to Campus, October 27th – November 1st 2019, visited several places and campuses in Central Java and Yogyakarta.

Based on information from an accompanying teacher, previously the students had visited the Faculty of Social and Political Science – Gajah Mada University and the Faculty of Medicine – Yogyakarta State University and a visit to FPIK UNDIP was their last visit before leaving for Bandar Lampung.

Furthermore, it was told that their wish to choose FPIK UNDIP was the desire of the students themselves. They are very curious and enthusiastic about marine fisheries. They saw the statistical data of enthusiasts who registered for FPIK UNDIP and the Bandar Lampung area, part of which consists of the coast, to be the main reason. Meanwhile, visits to tertiary institutions are aimed at facilitating the desires of students from both the Natural Science and Social Sciences pathways to obtain information about the world of lectures and they are much more confident in choosing the desired major. FPIK, SEMARANG – On Wednesday, Oct 23th, 2019, a general lecture was held with the title “Introduction to Semarang Maritime BMKG” from the Department of Marine Science, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science (FPIK) UNDIP with speakers, namely Retno Widyaningsih, S.Kom, Slamet Wiyono, ST and Dinna Kartika Pasha, S.Tr.

The event was opened by Mr. Agus Trianto, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D as the Head of the Department of Marine Science. The material provided by the resource person from BMKG Semarang City is about “Potential for Earthquakes and Tsunamis in Central Java and Mitigation” and “Maritime Meteorological Information Services”.
