Bronze Medal for FPIK UNDIP Students at Korea International Women’s Inventions Expositions (KIWIE) 2020

Five students from the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science (FPIK), Diponegoro University (UNDIP) successfully won a bronze medal at the Korea International Women’s Inventions Expositions (KIWIE) 2020 event. They collaborated to make a product called Chiberry Jam and it was successfully exhibited in the international arena. Chiberry Jam or which stands for Chitosan & Strawberry Jam is a food product that uses local strawberries and waste from shrimp carapace to be used as jam as an alternative food for cholesterol sufferers.

Apart from being able to reduce cholesterol levels in the blood, this product is predicted to be able to reduce waste generated from the shrimp farming industry and support increased agricultural yields, especially domestic strawberries.

The five outstanding students referred to are Nurfitri Lutfiah Sufiani, Rissinta Mahdalena, Sarrah Nadhifah Azmy, Yolla Febriani and Nalia Tasya Gunawan. The five students are active students of the Department of Fisheries Product Technology (THP) FPIK UNDIP. Despite the limited conditions amid the Covid-19 pandemic, they have proven by making achievements in the international arena. In the future, they hope that Chiberry Jam can be produced through clinical trials, so that it can be consumed and have a positive impact on the health of the Indonesian people. (BEMFPIK).

FPIK, SEMARANG – The Department of Marine Sciences, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK), Diponegoro University (UNDIP) is proud to present a Public Lecture as part of our webinar series on the World Class Professor (WCP) program. This activity is intended to support our big theme, namely “Towards New Global by Improving Research Capacity on Molecular Biotechnology through World Class Professor Program”.

In addition to general lecture activities, this webinar series also includes class activities and workshops held specifically for FPIK UNDIP students. This series of activities began in October 2020, then several webinars will be held in November 2020. Also, several webinar schedules are still in the confirmation stage and will be held in the near future.

FPIK, SEMARANG – The activities of the ICTCRED 2020 international conference (International Conference on Tropical and Coastal Region Eco-Development) are the answer to problems related to climate change, which affects coastal, social, economic, fishery and marine health. The Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science (FPIK), Diponegoro University, as the organizer of the activity, held the 6th ICTCRED 2020 on 27-28 October 2020 online via Zoom meeting. This annual event was opened by Undip Rector Prof. Dr. Yos Johan Utama, S.H., M.Hum; and was attended by the Vice Chancellor for academic and student affairs Prof. Budi Setiyono, S.Sos., M.Pol.Admin., Ph.D, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Heru Susanto, S.T., M.M., M.T.; Acting vice chancellor for Communications and Business Dwi Cahyo Utomo, S.E., M.A., Ph.D; Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation Prof. Dr. Ir. Ambariyanto, M.Sc., Dean of FPIK Prof. Tri Winarni and his staff, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Dean of the Faculty of Law, Dean of the Faculty of Public Health, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Dean of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Dean of Psychology, Dean of the Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Agriculture, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Mathematics , Dean of the Vocational School, Dean of the Postgraduate School, Chair of the Indonesian Oceanology Undergraduate Association Dr. Safri Burhanuddin as well as researchers and academics from various countries and fields.

This international seminar aims to promote and disseminate scientific findings within the scope of Ecological Development of Tropical and Coastal Areas, as well as support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), especially SDG number 13 (Climate Action), number 14 (Life Bellow Water), and number 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). This year’s ICTCRED theme is “Sustainable Development in Coastal Area”. The keynote speakers at ICTCRED 2020 are 10 people from 7 countries, including:

  • Naoki Itoh, Ph.D from the University of Tokyo, Japan with an area of ​​expertise in Infectious Diseases of Mollusks.
  • Ir. Slamet Budi Prayitno, M.Sc from Diponegoro University, Indonesia with expertise in Aquaculture.
  • Lee Chun Woo from Pukyong National University, South Korea, specializing in fisheries systems.
  • Irwandi Jaswir from International Islamic University, Malaysia, with expertise in Food Chemistry and Biochemistry.
  • Karen Diele from Edinburgh Napier University, Scotland with a major in Marine ecology.
  • Hwa Chien from National Central University, Taiwan, majoring in Oceanography
  • Dwi Susanto, Ph.D from the University of Maryland, United States with expertise in Atmospheric and Marine Sciences.
  • Magaly Koch from Boston University, United States specializing in Geology and Dryland Hydrology.
  • Elena N. Naumova from Tufts University, United States; Infectious Disease Modeling and Forecasting (InForMID) expertise.
  • Sucharita Gopal from Boston University, USA with expertise in GIS Spatial Analysis, Modeling and Spatial Statistics.

Chairman of the seminar committee Dr. Aris Ismanto, S.Sc., M.Sc. said “This seminar is usually held offline, but due to Covid-19, we have to change our habits online. We received more than 200 abstracts from prospective presenters but those who passed the selection stage were 107 presenters, of which 46 were from within UNDIP and general or outside UNDIP were 61 people. The entire presenter is divided into 4 countries, namely Indonesia, the Netherlands, the United States and Japan.”

The research presented at this event will be published in international proceedings indexed by the Scopus Institute of Physics (IOP); International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health (Q2), Biodiversity (Q3), Bioflux AACL (Q3), Squalen Bulletin of Marine and Fisheries Post Harvest and Biotechnology (Q4), Food Research (Q4); National journals indexed by SINTA such as the Marina Oceanography Bulletin, National Oceanic Journal, Tropical Marine Journal, and Fisheries Science and Technology.

Dean of FPIK Prof. Tri Winarni Agustini, M.Sc., Ph.D emphasized that the ICTCRED 2020 activity is a collaboration from the fields of coastal health, socio-economy and marine with the topics of Aquaculture, Fisheries, Marine Natural Products, Biotechnology, Coastal Engineering, Air Sea Interaction, Disaster Mitigation, And Rehabilitation, Coastal Policy, Fisheries Processing Technology, Coastal Resources, Coastal Social and Economic, Marine Science, Geoecohazard, Oceanography, and Coastal health.

ICTCRED 2020 activities are supported by the Association of Indonesian Oceanology Scholars (ISOI), Center for ICZM Undip, Corem Undip, TU Delft Netherland, NWO Netherland and TUFTs University USA. The Dean hopes that this activity can be useful for advances in science and technology, especially in the fields of fisheries and marine affairs. FPIK, SEMARANG – On this day, the stocking of fish seeds was carried out in the Jatibarang Reservoir in the context of the 63rd Anniversary of Diponegoro University (UNDIP). This activity was held to realize the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with a fish restocking program. Fish seed stocking and restocking activities are included in the SDGs criteria number 13 (Climate Action) and 14 (Life Below Water). This event was carried out with a health protocol and was attended by the Chancellor, Deputy Chancellor, Chair of the Academic Senate, Deputy Chair of MWA, and the Faculty/School Dean. In this event, a representative from the Marine and Fisheries Office of Central Java Province, Plt. Mayor of Semarang, Balai Besar Pemali Juana River Basin, Head of Health and Environment Laboratory Center of the Central Java Marine and Fisheries Service, and Semarang BTN.

The Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science (FPIK) and the Faculty of Public Health (FKM) UNDIP collaborated in organizing today’s event. The event begins with Prof. Ir. Tri Winarni Agustini, M.Sc., Ph.D as the Dean of FPIK who said that FPIK UNDIP will conduct guidance for the surrounding community by spreading fish seeds. Thus, it is hoped that the fish in the reservoir can develop and become part of the development plan for the tourism area of ​​Central Java in the tourist area of ​​the Jatibarang Reservoir.

Head of the Department of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Central Java Province, Ir. Fendiawan Triskiantoro, M.Si. conveyed that he supports fish development in the Jatibarang Reservoir by participating in sowing tilapia and alum fish seeds. He hopes that fishery product processing can be processed optimally. Meanwhile, Head of Semarang City Fisheries Service, Nurcholis, ST., MT, represented the Acting Mayor of Semarang, Drs. Tavip Supriyanto, M.Si. delivered his remarks “The Ministry of Fisheries supports the sovereignty, sustainability and welfare of the ecosystem by restocking fish in public waters, namely rivers or reservoirs which are now experiencing decline. Improper fishing facilities have reduced fish. Hopefully with this collaboration UNDIP will progress and be solid in advancing Semarang City, “he said.

Fish restocking activities are expected to strengthen FPIK UNDIP cooperation through fish cultivation, while FKM UNDIP collaborates with local communities to process fishery products into healthy products. UNDIP Chancellor Prof. Dr. Yos Johan Utama, S.H., M.Hum. hopes that this program can be beneficial for the development of the reservoir water ecosystem. “The restocking program by stocking fish seeds is UNDIP’s effort to help provide food sources,” he said. Furthermore Prof. Yos hopes that the 63.000 fish seeds that are stocked will provide blessings and benefits to the community.

The event continued with a dialogue with representatives of fishermen who catch fish in the Jatibarang Reservoir. “The presence of UNDIP is very helpful with various community service programs that have been carried out several times, including Covid-19 assistance. UNDIP provides assistance for fish breeding with cages and also counseling,” said one fisherman.

Apart from being a tourist attraction, many visitors to the reservoir come to fish. With the distribution of fish seeds and counseling to the surrounding community, it is hoped that fish cultivation can be successful. At the end of the event, the fish stocking was symbolically carried out by the UNDIP Rector and the officials attending the event. FPIK, SEMARANG – Today, Diponegoro University’s 63rd Anniversary Ceremony is held at the Prof. Building Hall. Soedarto, SH, UNDIP Campus, Tembalang. Present at this event were the Chancellor of UNDIP, Deputy Chancellor, Chair of the Academic Senate, Deputy Chair of the Board of Trustees, members of the Academic Senate and the Board of Professors. Invited guests take part in online events via the Zoom application. At the beginning of the event, a video showing the 63rd Anniversary of UNDIP from State Officials, Regional Leaders, and PTN / PTS was held.

This ceremony is the culmination of a series of activities to commemorate the 63rd Anniversary. At the 63rd Anniversary ceremony, presenting the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prof. Dr. (H.C.) K. H. Ma’ruf Amin who delivered a scientific oration entitled “The Use of Sharia Economic Research for the Empowerment of Coastal Areas in a New Normal Order” which was delivered online. In his scientific oration, he conveyed that one of the tasks of universities such as UNDIP is to help produce researchers who are capable of conducting research that can provide benefits as well as have high commercial value to be able to take roles effectively.

The 63rd Anniversary Ceremony of UNDIP was opened by the Chairperson of the Academic Senate Prof. Dr. Ir. Sunarso, MS. He hopes that with increasing age UNDIP can continue to apply the values ​​of peace, religion, and become a leading university in the research and academic fields.

The event was continued with remarks from the Rector of Diponegoro University, Prof. Dr. Yos Johan Utama, S.H., M.Hum. He conveyed that UNDIP has done a lot for 63 years, and can survive because of the solid synergy of the academic community, students, lecturers, and educational staff so that it makes UNDIP a strong university. UNDIP as PTNBH is fast in responding to the government to conduct online learning, and in implementing today’s event it also complies with standardized health protocols. “UNDIP upholds nationalism, according to the values ​​of Bhinneka Tunggal Ika. UNDIP supports various student activities, with funding for UKM and research teams, “said Prof. Yos.

Entering the age of 63, many achievements have been achieved by the UNDIP academic community and students, and the increasing number of professors is the result of support from UNDIP partners and the government. “UNDIP promised to help the government to maintain the unity of the nation and increase the competitiveness of the Indonesian people in the international world, by becoming more innovative, productive, and advanced, especially in the new normal order,” he concluded.

In this event, the UNDIP Award for Research and Innovation in 2020 was also carried out by the Chancellor accompanied by the Chair of the Academic Senate. The categories of awards given include the Most Lecturers of Copyright Owners in 2019, Most Lecturers of 2019 Patents, Best Author of SINTA Version 2018-2020, Most Granted Patents in 2019. As many as 13 UNDIP lecturers received the award. UNDIP also welcomed New Doctorates whose names were read by the Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs.
