Undip’s Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences Promotes a Strategy to Strengthen Its Global Alumni Network to Support the Transformation into a World-Class University

Semarang — The Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK) at Diponegoro University (Undip) hosted a World Class University (WCU) event themed “Strategies for Strengthening Global Alumni Networks to Support the Transformation into a World Class University” on Tuesday, April 28, 2026. The event, held at the Undip FPIK Auditorium, took place in person and was attended by faculty members, alumni, and stakeholder representatives.

The event began with participant registration and an official opening by the organizing committee. In the opening remarks, a faculty representative emphasized the strategic importance of alumni as partners in supporting Undip’s vision to become a world-class university. Alumni are seen as holding a key position in bridging global collaboration across academic, industrial, and governmental sectors.

The main session featured speakers from the alumni community who currently serve as Head of the Indonesian Quarantine Agency (Barantin), Abdul Kadir Karding, S.Pi., M.Si. (Undip FPIK Class of 1992) and Dr. Ir. Woro Nur Endang, M.P., Secretary of the Agency for Quality Control of Marine and Fisheries Products (BPPMHKP) at the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP). The presence of these alumni provided a real-world perspective on the contributions of Undip FPIK graduates across various strategic sectors at the national level.

In his presentation, the speaker emphasized the importance of strengthening the global alumni network through cross-sector collaboration, human resource capacity building, and the enhancement of quality assurance systems. These strategies were identified as a crucial foundation for supporting the institution’s transformation toward competitive and sustainable international standards.

The discussion also highlighted alumni contributions in supporting government programs, particularly the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) program. The role of alumni in quarantine, quality control, and marine resource management is considered crucial in ensuring food quality and safety, while also supporting national food security.

The event continued with an interactive discussion and Q&A session that unfolded in a dynamic manner. The participants’ enthusiasm was evident in the active exchange of ideas regarding opportunities for global collaboration and alumni contributions to national development. The various strategic ideas that emerged are expected to serve as the foundation for the development of sustainable programs in the future.

The event concluded with a summary of the discussion outcomes and the hope that this activity would serve as the first step toward strengthening a solid, adaptive, and globally competitive alumni network. Through strong synergy between the institution and its alumni, FPIK Undip is optimistic that it can make a tangible impact on the advancement of the university and contribute to the broader community.
