Semarang – The Aquaculture Study Program of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science (FPIK), Universitas Diponegoro, reaffirmed its commitment to international-standard education by successfully organizing the Undip Global Classroom titled “Fish Welfare in Aquaculture Education” on Thursday, April 23, 2026.
The event featured two distinguished international experts in aquaculture, Prof. Dave C. Little and Dr. Simao Zacharias, both widely recognized for their contributions to sustainable aquaculture development, particularly in the area of fish welfare.
Conducted in an interactive format, the session was attended by students, lecturers, and practitioners from diverse backgrounds. The forum provided valuable insights into the importance of integrating fish welfare principles into modern aquaculture education systems.
In his presentation, Prof. Dave C. Little emphasized that fish welfare is not merely an ethical concern but also plays a significant role in enhancing productivity and ensuring the sustainability of the aquaculture industry. Meanwhile, Dr. Simao Zacharias highlighted educational approaches that can foster greater awareness among students regarding responsible aquaculture practices.
This Global Classroom initiative is part of FPIK Undip’s ongoing efforts to promote the internationalization of education while strengthening global academic networks. The program is expected to equip students with a broader perspective to address future challenges and opportunities in sustainable aquaculture.
