Semarang, August 2026 – Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP) continues to strengthen its international research environment through the 2026 National World Class University (WCU) Postdoctoral Program, hosted by the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK). Among the academics participating in the program is Dr. Wendy Alexander Tanod, S.Kel., M.Si., a lecturer in the Fisheries Product Processing and Storage Study Program at Politeknik Negeri Nusa Utara (POLNUSTAR), an institution located in Indonesia’s border region near the Philippines.
Under a Rector’s Decree issued by Universitas Diponegoro, Dr. Wendy undertook her postdoctoral research at FPIK UNDIP under the supervision of Dr. Putut Har Riyadi, S.Pi., M.Si. Her research focuses on “Modulation of Systemic Inflammation and Improvement of Glucose Homeostasis by a Combination of Spirulina platensis and Zingiber officinale var. amarum in a Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Model: From Phenotype to Histopathology.”
The research adopts a multidisciplinary approach to investigating potential solutions to health-related challenges through evidence-based research and the latest scientific findings. As part of the program’s academic outputs, the research is being developed for publication in international journals indexed by Scopus and the Web of Science (WoS).
Dr. Wendy’s contribution during her time at FPIK UNDIP has extended beyond research and academic publication. She has also actively shared her knowledge and experience with the university community. On August 13, 2026, she served as a speaker at a workshop titled “Sharing Experiences in Writing Scientific Articles with the Assistance of Artificial Intelligence.” The workshop was attended by lecturers from the Fisheries Product Technology Study Program at FPIK UNDIP and received an enthusiastic response from the academic community.
A week later, on August 20, 2026, Dr. Wendy continued her academic engagement by delivering a guest lecture for FPIK UNDIP postgraduate students. The session, titled “Identifying Research Gaps in Postgraduate Research with the Assistance of AI,” provided students with insights into identifying research gaps and utilizing artificial intelligence as a supporting tool in the research process.
Her academic expertise has also been reflected in her intensive mentoring of publication manuscripts for four students at the undergraduate and doctoral levels. Through this mentoring process, three scientific manuscripts have been submitted to international Scopus-indexed journals, while the remaining manuscript is currently undergoing final revisions.
The publication outcomes achieved during the postdoctoral program have also demonstrated strong progress. To date, one manuscript has been published in a Scopus-indexed Q2 international journal. In addition, two manuscripts are currently under review by Scopus-indexed Q2 journals, while three manuscripts are undergoing finalization and one additional manuscript is currently in the drafting stage.
The research collaboration has also contributed to strengthening the scholarly impact and academic networks of the host institution. Nine scientific works authored by UNDIP lecturers have been cited in various research articles prepared by Dr. Wendy in collaboration with her supervisor, Dr. Putut.
The achievements of the program demonstrate how academic collaboration can create opportunities for researchers from Indonesia’s border regions to contribute to the broader scientific community. Dr. Wendy’s postdoctoral experience at FPIK UNDIP highlights the potential of academics from regional higher education institutions to strengthen research networks, produce internationally recognized scholarly work, and contribute to the advancement of science within a globally oriented university environment.
Through the WCU Postdoctoral Program, UNDIP continues to foster an inclusive and collaborative research ecosystem that connects academics across regions while strengthening its international academic networks and research capacity.
