Semarang – A student from the Master’s Program in Marine Science, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science (FPIK), Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP), has once again demonstrated meaningful academic contribution through participation in a national scientific forum. On December 16, 2025, Willy Wulansari, a Marine Science master’s student, was one of the speakers at the 25th Maritime Scientific Discussion Forum (FDIM) organized virtually by the Maritime Meteorology Directorate of the Indonesian Agency for Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics (BMKG).

The event served as a platform for disseminating Willy’s thesis research, which focuses on oceanography and maritime meteorology. During the forum, she presented a study titled “Utilization of Maritime Meteorological Observation Data (Coastal Float and Marine Automatic Weather Station) in the Analysis of Marine Heatwave Events.” Her presentation highlighted the importance of oceanic and atmospheric observation data as a fundamental basis for analyzing Marine Heatwaves (MHWs), which are occurring more frequently due to climate variability and global climate change.
In her presentation, Willy emphasized the importance of integrating data from Coastal Float instruments, Marine Automatic Weather Stations (MAWS), and high-resolution satellite observations to improve early detection of sea surface temperature anomalies. The findings of her research are expected to support the development of real-time Marine Heatwave monitoring systems, particularly in Indonesia’s coastal regions that are vulnerable to extreme ocean warming.
The Maritime Scientific Discussion Forum serves as a knowledge-sharing platform for BMKG staff and researchers, including technical units across Indonesia. The 25th FDIM was attended by more than 50 participants from various BMKG divisions and was conducted virtually.
Willy’s participation in this national scientific forum reflects the active role of FPIK UNDIP’s academic community in strengthening scientific contributions to strategic national marine issues. It also demonstrates the positive impact of student research in providing scientific insight for policymakers and research institutions.
