Undip Oceanography Student Rizal Attaqwa Wins JSPRS Award 2025 at ACRS in Makassar

Semarang – Rizal Attaqwa, a 2022 Oceanography student from Diponegoro University (UNDIP), achieved an outstanding international accomplishment at The 46th Asian Conference on Remote Sensing (ACRS) 2025, held in Makassar, Indonesia, on 27–31 October 2025. His achievement highlights the growing contribution of Indonesian students to global remote sensing research.

ACRS 2025 was organized by the Indonesian Society of Remote Sensing (ISRS/MAPIN) in collaboration with the Asian Association on Remote Sensing (AARS). Carrying the theme “Harnessing Remote Sensing for Global Sustainability, Resilience, and Technology Innovation,” the conference gathered international experts to discuss the vital role of remote sensing in climate resilience and global sustainability.

During the conference, Rizal Attaqwa, representing the student research group UKM-F REGISTER, presented his study titled “Marine Heatwaves Study Based on Copernicus OSTIA L4 Satellite-Derived Sea Surface Temperature and Geospatial Analysis in the Arafura Sea (1982–2024).” The research analyzes Marine Heatwaves (MHWs)—extreme ocean warming events—using satellite-derived sea surface temperature data collected over more than four decades.

For his strong research contribution and outstanding presentation, Rizal was awarded the JSPRS Award 2025 by the Japan Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing. He received the award as the best young presenter under the age of 35. The research team also includes Dava Adria Ramadhan, Alfan Maulana, Seysha Haura Nydia Harini, and Aulia Dinda Saputri, under the supervision of Prof. Dr.Sc. Anindya Wirasatriya and Dr. Muhammad Helmi.

This achievement reinforces UNDIP’s reputation in marine and remote sensing research. It also underscores the important role of Indonesia’s young generation in advancing global scientific innovation and sustainable ocean studies.
