Semarang, 2025 – Rizal Attaqwa, a 2022 Oceanography student from Diponegoro University, achieved a proud accomplishment at “the 46th Asian Conference on Remote Sensing (ACRS) 2025”, held in Makassar, Indonesia, on October 27–31, 2025.
This international conference was organized by the Indonesian Society of Remote Sensing (ISRS/MAPIN) and the Asian Association on Remote Sensing (AARS) with the theme “Harnessing Remote Sensing for Global Sustainability, Resilience, and Technology Innovation.” ACRS brought together experts to examine the role of remote sensing in sustainability and climate resilience.

At the conference, Rizal Attaqwa, who also represents UKM-F REGISTER (Remote Sensing and Geographic Information System Technology Research), presented a study titled “Marine Heatwaves Study Based on Copernicus OSTIA L4 Satellite-Derived Sea Surface Temperature and Geospatial Analysis in the Arafura Sea (1982–2024).” This study analyzes Marine Heatwaves (MHWs), which are periods of extreme ocean warming identified from satellite sea surface temperature data over more than four decades.

For his contribution, Rizal Attaqwa was awarded the JSPRS Award 2025 by the Japan Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing as the young researcher with the best presentation under the age of 35. The team also included Dava Adria Ramadhan, Alfan Maulana, Seysha Haura Nydia Harini, and Aulia Dinda Saputri, under the guidance of Prof. Dr.Sc. Anindya Wirasatriya and Dr. Muhammad Helmi.
This success underscores the contribution of UNDIP students to remote sensing-based marine research and the role of Indonesia’s young generation in global sustainable science.
